a light on a hill - margot & the nuclear so and so’s
I thought about this song today, for the first time in a really long time. I was never much taken with this band in any other sense, but circa 2006, I used to cover this track quite often at solo shows. In spite of the fake-lo-fi vibe and all that major label angst, the Rich White Kid Blues bit always riled me up enough to deliver it with some fair vitriol. (Or so I thought at the time, anyhow, and no recordings exist to confirm or deny my hypothesis.)
It looks like this band is still going - terrible names and cheap sentiment will apparently take you quite far, particularly on Tumblr - but my few attempts to listen to anything else they’ve done weren’t very rewarding. I can’t even say for sure if this song has any real value unless you have nostalgia bound to it. All the same, you can listen to it, and judge the questionable aesthetic I had at 19.
