1. No-one talked about this when it came out - or at least nowhere near as much as it deserved. Holy damn if Jake isn’t every bit as staggeringly clever as that first day in 2007 though, seeing him play in a library at his cousin’s insistance. He pops up again every few years, and it’s always a hugely welcome surprise to get a look into what he’s working on.

  2. I am teaching mediumtoheavyhanded to play banjo. If you need some folk punk songs played on a banjo, I have a pretty good idea who you should ask.

Never forget the true meaning of this season - the death and resurrection of our lord and saviour Jamiroquai, who died for our sins and rose again.

  4. My birthday is record store day - how about that? I found a 2nd hand copy of Kind Of Like Spitting’s “Old Moon…” as well as the Sunny Day Real Estate 7”, so that’s neat. Not as neat as the live Codeine LP last year, but very little is, or ever could be.

Trains are all screwed up this morning, and i’m at least half an hour late for work, not to mention that i’m now on a bus to Richmond to connect into town. Metro Rail are impressively terrible in a crisis.

Fortunately, I put the entire Auburn Lull discography on my phone before work. I had forgotten how magnificent this band is. I remember the second time I met lemaddy on a train (including a rail replacement bus - ha!), circa 2007, mentioning that this band was like a much better Sigur Ros. They’re that and so much more. One of the most underrated dream pop bands.

The insanely talented nicbelor came by the studio last night to try out my EGCs, and to let me test out some of his exceptional pedals too. While he was there, I asked him if he might consider rehousing my damaged green-label Boss CE-2B, and he was only too happy to accept. Within 24 hours, he sent me the above mockup for my new “Dross” pedal. Stoked.

  10. thebandknapsack are touring in August. I never thought i’d see the day. I can actually still remember using a VCR (!!) to record At The Drive-In hosting Rage, a couple of weeks after I turned 14, and watching the tape repeatedly over the following weeks - it was through that broadcast that I discovered not only Knapsack, but The Pixies, The Breeders, Sleater-Kinney, Kraftwork and Aphex Twin too. At The Drive-In also led me directly to Braid and Kind Of Like Spitting. The earliest 2000s were an interesting time. I’ll go to the show and it’ll be great.
